A secure, sustainable, and prosperous African maritime domain, where all states and stakeholders work together to prevent maritime crimes, promote the rule of law, and protect the environment, contributing to peaceful and stable societies.

Our Mission

The African Maritime Security Initiative partners with African states, regional organizations, and international partners to provide prompt, impartial, and professional expertise, tailored to each context, to enhance maritime security, prevent maritime crimes, and promote sustainable development in Africa.

Our Approach

The detrimental effects of maritime insecurity and crimes have lasting impacts on African societies and economies. Addressing these challenges requires a comprehensive and sustainable approach that promotes maritime security, prevents maritime crimes, and supports sustainable development. 

Our strategy focuses on:

✔️ Enhancing Maritime Security: We work with African states and regional organizations to strengthen maritime security mechanisms, build capacity, and promote cooperation to prevent maritime crimes.
✔️ Preventing Maritime Crimes: We support efforts to combat piracy, IUU fishing, terrorism, and other maritime crimes, and promote the rule of law and good governance at sea.
✔️ Promoting Sustainable Development: We work with stakeholders to promote sustainable use and development of Africa's oceans, including maritime spatial planning, climate change adaptation, and mitigation strategies.
✔️ Building Partnerships: We establish partnerships and collaborations with international organizations, governments, private industry, and civil society organizations to advance the objectives of the Initiative.
✔️ Providing Technical Assistance: We provide technical assistance, advisory services, and capacity-building support to African states, private entities, and individuals on maritime security, ocean governance, and sustainable development issues.
